Hoping She's OK

I finally got my close up of a bird.  I should be happy but I'm not.  This darling female downy woodpecker is the second bird to hit my patio door this week (and no...my patio glass is NOT super clean).  The other bird didn't make it.    That broke my heart.

I gently set her on the deck rail.

Her left talon doesn't look so good.

She stayed quite awhile before flying off to a tree branch...
where she remains.

I think she's going to be OK.
I sure hope so.

Hi, I'm new here. How strange that last night I was reading my book and read a story about just this happening. Sadly the little bird died, it was so traumatised. Hope your little bird does better and recovers from it's ordeal.
I have birds hitting my windows all the time. I'm so used to the 'bang' every time it happens that I hardly notice it now.

Jill, several years ago I had a blue jay hit my kitchen window. It looked really bad. It lay on its side just looking up at me. I begged Roger to do something, but he said he could just kill it. I am glad he couldn't. After awhile the baby stood and soon it flew away.

do you have stickers on your windows now so they don't fly against it again?

Have a great weekend!

I used to have the birds and hummingbirds whap against the patio door all the time. So I bought some of that dimensional fake stained glass paint and painted a picture of a tree and other things(not realistic) and that pretty well took care of the problem. I could still see the birds, but they could see there was something in the way.

I hope the bird makes it ok.

Oh I hate that. Even with anti-strike stickers they still smack into my window.

Some creatures will do anything to be featured on your blog. I hope she didn't over-do it.

I so hate it when that happens! Just had a teen cardinal meet his demise from the same thing!
I'm glad this little guy made it so far!

What a sweet little bird. I'm sure her talon will heal and she'll be on her way in no time! Sending positive vibes your way!

Aw, doesn't it break your heart when that happens. A dove almost flew into our kitchen window yesterday morning. It veered away at the last second.
Hope he/she makes it!

Hopefully he knocked some sence into himself and won't do that again! Great pics!

ADORABLE, Jill, what a great photo. But a sad story. They do hit the windows, we try to curtail it, but it still happens. Nice light, and what a brave bird.

Oh, that used to happen quite often with one of our windows! But our birds would fall dead immediately. Poor things. I was always glad it was quick at least. :( Your little lady looks pretty good. I'm sure her talon will heal. At least she can fly and her beak didn't get injured. She's so sweet!
