Apple Butter

I have had a request for the apple butter recipe.
So here it is!

3 lbs apples
3 cups sugar
2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. allspice (optional)
1/2 tsp. cloves
Dash of salt
3/4 cup apple cider  (NOT apple cider vinegar)

Fill a crock pot 3/4 full with peeled, cored and sliced apples.
Add the rest of the ingredients and stir.
Cover and cook on low overnight (about 10 hours).
If it seems like there is too much liquid in the morning,
remove the cover and put on high.  Let it
cook until thickened.  Stir often.

To can:  Leave 1/4" head space in canning jars
( I got 12 half pints) and process
in a boiling hot bath for 10 minutes.

Enjoy!

Hello!! This seems like a recipe that I could even do!! The farmer down the road from me says he has apples for sale, if he has enough I'll have to try this. THANKS for the recipe and the great fall pictures!!

Thanks, Jill - it looks wonderful! and a fantastic way to use up the glut of apples. Do you eat it on bread, like regular butter, or is it a kind of dessert that you eat with yogurt?

Jenny: We eat it on toast normally. It's also good on ice cream. I've never tried it with yogurt but I bet it would be good!

Your recipe sounds mmm! I used to make apple butter every year where we used to live. We had several apple trees there. I miss having homemade apple butter, that is for sure!

&
lovely fall photos, Jill!
Hope you are having a great day :)

It's pretty tangy with apple cider vinegar vs. apple cider LOL!!!

Sounds delish Jill
but I have no apples.

Want to send some over to rainy Ireland?

You send the apples to me
and I'll send the rain to you.

Apple Butter--what nice memories that brings back. My parents always had a jar on the table at breakfast. I grew up eating Apple Butter rather than grape jelly. Those are some bright and colorful Fall leaves--really pretty!!! Have a lovely weekend. Mickie :)
