In my desire not to overwhelm you
with my visit of this
amazing lighthouse,
I am going to give it to you
in sections.
I could probably do several weeks
posts on just this one place
but will attempt to
reduce it to 3 parts.
Let me begin:
Split Rock Lighthouse
Built in 1910
Restored to it's 1920 appearance.
The girls with a lighthouse keeper.
The tower is 54'.
Looking up.
Preparing for guests
at the light keepers home.
It can be heard for 5 miles.
A second lighthouse keeper.
The lighthouse keepers desk.
Going up!
Looking out the top.
Going down.
As charming as he is handsome!
The beacon.
It had a range of 22 miles.
The lighthouse operated from 1910 - 1961.
Modern navigational equipment made it obsolete in 1961.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE LIGHTHOUSES AND SPLIT ROCK IS BEAUTIFUL. NORTH CAROLINA HAS LOTS OF LIGHTHOUSES TOO WE ARE STILL TRYING TO SEE ALL OF THEM.

I wonder what it is about lighthouses...I love them. Once we went n a vacation up the West coast of Michigan and stopped at every lighthouse from South Haven to Mackinac Island! There is something mysterious and romantic about them, don't you think?
