Alive

It's 12 degrees this morning.
The air that fills my lungs is cold and crisp.
The snow beneath my feet crunches.

I love mornings like this.

Not that I love being cold.
I don't.
But it's the kind of morning that reminds you
that you are alive.

It's inescapable.

Steam rises from the birdbath.
The warmth of my breath trails out in a stream of white.
The call of the birds carries through the air,
sharper than usual.

My senses seem heightened.
I feel more.
I hear more.
I sense more.

Yes, I'm alive.

We went out around 9 am this morning and it was the same temp -- 12 -- but it was sunny and no wind. Just gorgeous!

I could almost feel the cold crisp air as I read your post. It sort of inspires me to get out and start walking in the mornings. I love winter, but I'm not thrilled to be cold, but you can always dress to stay warm :)

I've yet to feel that in the cold. Glad someone is.

It does seem more quiet in the winter, and in the quiet, I find my senses heightened. However, I think I prefer warm summer days!

You described perfectly how I felt many years ago when we lived in the North.

I loved that feeling but not the cold.

Beautiful post, Jill.

Gorgeous picture to go with your words :) Being cold also makes me appreciate the luxury of a heated house.
