Pinecones and Peanut Butter

We had a very nice
Thanksgiving, even though it was just the three of us.

I thought I'd show you some of the crafty things
we accomplished in between the cooking, cleaning, etc.

I made a wreath template out of sturdy cardboard, a
 plate and a pot.
Then we used a glue gun to attach the pine cones.
I didn't have any great ribbon lying around
(and refused to do any last minute shopping for the 11th time) so
we recycled one from a gift from last year.  Not the best
but it will do.

Our pine cone wreath:

Bad, bad lighting.

Next we had to do something
for my bird friends.
A little peanut butter and cornmeal tossed together and
a few, I threw in some frozen blueberries.
I placed the mixtures in a muffin tin,
let them semi freeze,
poked a hole in the middle using a straw
then ran some raffia through the hole for hanging.

Here's what they look like:

Unfortunately, these only work for those of us in the
freezing climates.
We're too warm to hang them out right now
but they await the colder temps in the freezer.

Do you have a favorite craft of bird treat idea?
I'd love to hear and see them!

It looks like you had a nice Thanksgiving. Atleast it was peaceful and quiet. Love the pine cone wreath. Nice to have pine cones and use them for crafts. I like what you did for the birds. Cute. I hope the birds love them.

that's so sweet of you to make treats for the birds! i saw another blogger this morning with a peanut butter jar screwed into a holder with slits cut out in the side of the jar. here, it would be filled with bugs or my dogs would be climbing the tree to get it. but in cold climates, i bet it is very much appreciated!

Hi Jill... your wreath is so pretty!... and I love that you take such good care of your little feathered friends... those treats are fabulous!... I put out peanut butter in a little feeder full of holes that I bought... along with suet, mixed seed, fruit and nut and berry mix, apple slices, peanuts, cracked corn... gee, the only thing missing is a cheeseball and crackers for them... hmmm... guess I better get working on that... xoxo Julie Marie

Awesome wreath, Jill -- I thought about making one yesterday as I was gathering cones for the fire. Maybe later...

I have done the roll pine cones in peanut butter, then in bird seed and freeze trick. You can use ribbon or wire to hang them anywhere. :)

How nice your Thanksgiving and your crafts.

We take the pine cones - put peanut butter on them - and roll them in bird seed - then hang them out.

Love, sandie

Pretty wreath! I like the idea of the peanut butter and cornmeal, will have to wait until it gets a lot colder though, maybe just put the concoction in a dish...

Our cold front hasn't come through yet, it's 75F right now, but due to change!

Our fine feather friends will have a feast come freezing temps.

Came over to visit from Sharon's "I forget what I forgot" blog! Enjoying your post...love what you've made for the birds...I'm in Florida, so sadly don't think they'd work here!

Oh my gosh! Love your wreath! All these pine cones from around your own home make it even more special!

And, your birds will love you when the weather is colder and food is scarce!

I love your new header, banner (sorry, not up on all of the tech lingo - but it is so beautiful!)

Hope your weekend continues to be as wonderful as it seems to have been so far!

Blessings,
Donna

Very nice wreath--I love to use things from nature to make decorations. We cover bagels with peanut butter and then roll them in birdseed. Whatever I put out seems to go FAST!!! Mickie :)

Whe I saw your title, I thought you were doing the pinecone bird feeders we did as kids (when you spread the pinecones with peanut butter and roll them in bird seed). This looks like a great idea!
