Mail Call!

Did you know that my Dad was a Postmaster?  We lived in a small town and he served as Postmaster for many years.  I have really fond memories of that little post office.

Remember, now try hard, what a thrill it used to be to run out to the mailbox each day and the joy you felt when you scored a (gasp) handwritten note or a card from a loved one or a friend?  Didn't your heart just skip a beat with excitement?  Mine sure did.  In fact, going to get the mail is always like Christmas morning to me.  I can't wait to get there!  Even though these days, it's very rare to have some "real" mail.  It seems everyone wants to do email. *sigh*  I love my email too, don't get me wrong, but I do love a real card or letter in my greedy little hands!

(This is not my photo..sorry it's so blurry but every one I've tried to import comes out like this one)!

I know a certain blogger that just put up a new mailbox!  And, as if that isn't enough, I've sensed sadness from a few other bloggers about the lack of "interesting" mail in their mailboxes.

So, I had an idea.  I'd like to host a mail swap!  Here's how it will work.

You:  Email me your snail mail address. (You must be a follower of my blog to participate).

Me:  I will pick a blogger on my list and I will send them your address.

You:  Once you have the name and address of your blogging pen pal, send them a card and/or a letter.

Please submit your address to me no later than Sept.15, 2011.  I will send you your pen pal information on Sept. 16th.  Everyone will need to mail out their cards and/or letters no later than Sept. 22nd.

I hope this sounds like fun to you!  I think it will be.  And don't worry, if an odd numbe rof people sign up, you'll still get a card.  I'll make sure of it. =)

Evidently my gmail account isn't good enough or something. I have it set for my slow access.

You on facebook?

Mail call in my small town was a time for friends and neighbors to meet at the post office while the mail was being "put up". Back in the 50's that was twice a day and that is where you heard about who was sick and who died etc. Thanks for the memory.

You know I am in!
I used to work at a rural post office. I always thought it was funny when people would be standing on their side of the boxes, waiting for me to put mail in. One day a man told me he was waiting for his ship to come in(the box). haha

There is nothing like snail mail for sure. I love getting mail and I like sending cards to people. Especially little older folks that feel forgotten or lost. Great idea!

Ooh...this sounds like fun! And although I've been reading your blog for months, it just occurred to me that I've never signed up for e-mails..! Now I've done that, and I'll e-mail you my address. (But I think you already have it!)

there was a sense about the mail arriving back in the day that is gone, for sure. everything came in the mail. and then when it didn't come in the mail, you just had to wait 24 hours to see if it came then. what a substantially slower world. i can get nostalgic, but i refuse to:)

I remember having a similar mail box in college. I'm a new follower and count me in on the mail swap; sounds like fun.
