To Nook or Not to Nook?

Nook and Case
That is my question.
I just can't decide if I would like a Nook (or Kindle)
or not.

There is something very satisfying
about selecting a book.
I like to slowly peruse the cover
for details of the story.
I enjoy breathing in the smell of a book,
and seeing what the author looks like.

I find reading a book to be very
intimate,
either curled up on the couch or
in a leather chair,
or even bundled up in bed
under layers of covers,
and feeling the pages
between my fingers.
There's just nothing quite like it.

Those are my pros.

Here are my cons.

My hands get tired from the weight of
a book in my hands.
In fact, they have strained my thumb
so much I have needed two
cortisone injections to alleviate the intense pain.

The other issue is what to do with
all of the books, once they've been read.
I'm not one to reread books.
I share as many as I can
but they eventually come back to me.
I do donate many of them.
A great many just sit and collect dust.

One area I'm having a problem with is the cost.
Yes, books for the Nook (or Kindle)
are cheaper.
But not by much.
And I feel like I'd have nothing concrete
to show for the money I would spend on books.

I could store around 3500 books
on a Nook.
But do I really need to store so many?

I could share them with other Nook readers
and they could share their books with me.
Problem there...
I don't like time frames and
you can only share the books for two weeks.

So there is my dilemma.
I'm curious to know
any pros and cons you may have,
maybe they would help me make my decision.

I doubt Shakespeare ever thought
someone would be asking
"To Nook or Not to Nook!"

In closing,
I'd like to send a huge shout out to Kandi from
She was kind enough to pretty up my blog for me.
Check out her blog some time.
She has darling stories to tell of
her husband, two adorable daugthers
and a dog named Charley.
She's also a wonderful
photographer!

Hmmm. I just don't think I could give up the real thing, yet I see people using a Nook or something like it at the clinic and when I ask them about it they tell me they love it and talk about all the features. It's hard to decide isn't it? As you said, "To Nook or not to Nook." I guess that is the question.

I don't think I could give up the real thing yet either....but I don't have thumb problems yet. I never check out hard cover books from the library anymore because they make my hands ache and I also rarely read in bed anymore eiher - because they make my hands ache and apparently I hold my head funny -because I usually end up with a neck ache too! I guess I am getting old!

I hear people say awesome things about those new-fangled reader thingies - but I am not ready to join this millenium yet. One good thing I can think of - if you would never be out of books. I tend to panic a bit if I don't have at least one book just waiting around for me. My dad is the same way - which I never knew until we were in Italy and he started getting worried that he was almost finished with his latest Tom Clancy novel and our trip was only about half over!!! We found him a book store in Venice that had books in English and he was fine. SO I suppose that would be another positive, you could find books in English no matter where you are!!!

I like your new prettier blog! Good job, Kandi!

I noticed your blog changes right away...love it! (That Kandi is handy.) Yowch about the shots! With everything, I do think they are going to force us all to go digital eventually -- but I am dragging my heels. (I talked to the librarian...they are certainly thinking/planning about what these changes will mean for them!)

I'm reluctant to go to Nook...I'm with you - I love the feel of a book in my hands. But if your hands are giving your problems, maybe Nook is the way to go! I also don't buy books, I check them out from the library so I don't have to worry about cost as much. I'm with the others, though...eventually we'll all probably go digital!

Thanks for the shout out! I honestly didn't do that much and I had fun doing it...I'm glad you like it, though! :)
