The Power of Words

Before I begin this post, I'd just like to thank all of your for your kind
words and comments regarding my blog.  I just love hearing from all of you and so appreciate the support you have all given me on my little endeavor.

Today, I'd like to talk about words and the power they have.
I know how often we can say something and believe the words just blow away in the wind.  Never again to be thought of.
What we don't realize though, is they can echo on forever.
They can affect more people than just the person we intended them.

Having put the elections behind us (sans the gubernatorial race),
I am still replaying words that were written or spoken,
one "side" pitting itself against the other "side."
No, the mud wasn't slung at me.
But it might as well have been.
They have affected me deeply.
They make me angry, shocked, appalled and hurt.
And the thing that really gets me is that those words accomplished nothing positive.
They didn't sway anyone to vote the "other"way.
The words hang here.
Looming like a dark cloud.
Bringing up ugly memories of prior political "debates."
Words.
They can slice through us like a piercing knife.

Then there are the kind words.
The ones that evoke a loving feeling.
They are the words that are like a toasty blanket that envelopes us in warm fuzzies.
The encouraging words that push us forward, not back.
Words that bring back a flood of smiles and soothing memories.
Words that enlighten us.
Words that put a smile on our faces
and swell our heart with so much pride we think we'll burst.

I'm going to watch my words from now on.
And I'd like to encourage everyone to do the same.
To anyone reading this,
please know this...
YOU are special.
YOU are wonderful!
I care about YOU.
Go have a GREAT day!

Yes...words! Today marks one year since our friend Ann lost her battle with cancer. One of the last things she said to me was "Please don't cry, it was ment to be"! I think of those words every time i cry and it makes me smile!! Your Blog also makes me smile. You are so real and truly care about people! I love your writing!

Jill, today I quoted Mom again: "Look kids, it's snowing!" There are so many of her words that come back to me every single day. What words will my sons remember me for? My sister? My brothers? My husband? You can't take words back. Scripture has many references to controlling the tongue. Just when I think I am watching my tongue, I slip up again. Thankfully I have a forgiving family. And thankfully I have a sister who says kind and helpful words to me. I love you. Valerie
