All In A Day

I've rediscovered something.
Having a 6 month old in the house changes a few things.
Correction:  It changes everything!
I don't get anything done!
I don't mind as I love this little guy.
His smile just lights up the world.
His giggles chase the blues away.
But I repeat, I don't get ANYTHING done!

Therefore, I arose early Saturday morning to play catch up.
I paid my bills.
I did a few loads of laundry.
I cleaned up the kitchen counter.
Took out the garbage and recycling.
Unloaded the dishwasher.
All while Becky was sleeping.

I took a "break" here to take a shower.

Once Becky was up and ready,
we headed out to do some errands.
We ran to the Post Office for church.
Stopped at church to drop off their mail.
Stopped at home to pick up my forgotten grocery list.
Went and did the grocery shopping.
Came home and put groceries away.
Spent almost 3 hours mowing the yard.
Made a cake to take to church on Sunday.
Made meatballs for supper.
Started to make cookies.
Realized I had no baking soda.
Ran back into town to purchase soda.
Came home and finished cookies.

At 5:00 p.m., it was time for another "break."
A friend called at the perfect time.
Out to the deck I went while chatting away.
I decided to sit a spell.
The deck chair had other ideas.
It broke.
I went tumbling down.
I hit my head on the railing.
Jammed my neck.
Skinned my elbow and knee.
And just kept on chatting!
My friend never even knew what happened!

Becky came to the deck.
Any of you that ever have chatted with me on the phone,
know how I'm always telling Becky "Do no interrupt me when I'm on the phone
unless it's life threatening."  In her world, everything is life threatening.
But she never said a word.  I could feel her staring at me
as I lay there, face down on the deck, talking on the phone.
Once I hung up, Becky quietly asked,
"Are you OK?"
I replied "Yes, but would you please get me an ice pack?"
With no further conversation argument, she went inside
and brought out an ice pack.
I humbly arose and took the chance
of sitting in another chair, just like the one I had just crashed in.

She sat across from me.
We talked about what had happened.
We even started to giggle about how silly it all must have looked.
And then she calmly stated:
"I thought you were dead."

Thankfully,  I am alive and well.
Albeit, a little sore.

And how was YOUR
day?

Oh, my word! That is too funny. I tell me kids not to interrupt me unless they are bleeding....so far has not worked. I cannot believe that Becky just quietly waited until you were done. I have a very vivid picture in my mind of this...but it gives me hope that if I repeat this rule a few thousand more times to the kids - they will finally get it - that wanting a snack or wanting to be a tattle tale does NOT count as an emergency....no blood....no interruption! Although, in your case, there actually was blood - yours - so maybe she should have interrupted you. ;)

Wow! Poor Jill! That is so you Jill..caring more about the person you are talking to than worrying about yourself..bless you always!
Julie
Also so true about getting anything done..I don't know how my kids do it with all of their little ones!

I posted a long commentary on your adventure and it isn't showing up. Jim and I both laughed out loud several times and are so glad you are not dead. Keep writing. Keep living. Love you lots,
Jim and Valerie
