Lichen

I found this to be so interesting.
I think it is a type of lichen,
however,
I couldn't find one just like it on google.
If anyone knows more,
feel free to correct me.

I quite liked the way it ambled up the tree.

Makes me daydream of sprites and fairies.

I think it's a shelf fungus, but I have no idea which kind exactly.

I'm afraid I've no idea what it might be - no surprise there eh lol.
It does add something to the look of the tree though doesn't it?

Fascinating design on the tree. The top image has several places that give the appearance of tiny little pines -- like Christmas trees. I love to see photos like this that show something new every time I look at them. Thanks for visiting my A Joyful Cottage blog and entering our giveaway. God bless.

I don't know either...wish I could help. I always find it really interesting against the bark of a tree. Oranges, yellows, greens...and I like when mushrooms grow on the tree as well.

We have that on trees here too, and I'll have to look up what it is. I like the thought of fairies being about!

It looks like you are right but I have no idea

Whatever they are, they contrast nicely with the tree bark. :)

Hi Jill,

It almost looked like something that grows before Spanish Moss does in trees here on the Coast, and found this, http://www.ucmp.berkeley.edu/fungi/lichens/lichens.html
if you are interested at all. It is a fungi and and green alga - or then again, maybe not. I've seen something similar in the mountains on the pines here.

Have a wonderful day!

Hugs,
Donna
