A Mother's Cry

We noticed it a week ago.

We went back to check
it yesterday.
Silently,
carefully,
we approached.

We stood in awe
before we attempted
to photograph her.
And there she sat.
Still.
For a few moments.

She ventured out.

Watching us, watch her.

Then instinct took over.

She called out a warning.
Tried to lure us away.
The father watched from afar.

We left them to be.
We will return to watch
for the babies.
Less than a mile from our home.
How privileged we feel.
To call
the Bald Eagle our neighbor.

Oh how exciting! I would love to have one that close (I don't think we even have them around here?)

Wow! We have a couple that we see flying nearby, and they perch in our trees. But we've never seen the nest.

That's so exciting!
