The Quiet

I've completed the mowing.
As I sit here on a short break,
the quiet envelops me.
The phone sits in it's cradle,
the TV and radio are off
and the cat and dog
sleep peacefully.

I can hear the birds singing
through the window
and feel the sun beginning to warm the day.
And I realize,
it's the last day of school
and the quiet will soon be over.

Tomorrow brings
two hours of graduation practice.
Next week, my son will be home,
my baby daughter will graduate
and after 6 long years,
my "kids" will be off with their Dad for
a few short days.

Summer is arriving.
With it, new hopes,
dreams and adventures.
Quiet no more.
But a home bustling with acitivity.
Even if it's just the day to day
activities,
the silence will be reserved
for after dark.
On the deck.
Alone.
Listening to the frogs.
And the whisper of sweet summer breezes.

Very well said Jill. It's like they say the calm before the storm. But this storm is all good. Kids are always good to have around, even when they are impossible and you just want to pull your hair off. My mom always said, it is better to have them running around riving you cray then to have them sick in a bed. She was always so right.
Enjoy the rest of the calm day. We are having yucky weather here with lots of rain and humidity.

I love popping by to read your blog, my friend. Yes, summer will be here shortly, kids of out of school, weather changes, chores change. Sounds like you'll have a nice relaxing summer! Nice the kids are spending time with Dad after so long.

Enjoy tomorrow, Jill. Such a nice day for a graduation! We are supposed to reach 101 today!! Yikes!

It's like that magic half-moment in time between the real moments in time. Embrace it.

Beautiful thoughts Jill. I know about the evenings, my quiet time on the patio.

I love quiet times...I rarely get to have time all by myself, but I do enjoy it when those days come!

Girl we have a lot in common - my peace is over - my grandson is home and my daughter is done teaching. Phew! Quiet no more. The funny thing is you miss it too. It like you want to combine some time for yourself and some time with them. lol sandie
