Prom Drama Act II

The drama continues...

Cast of Characters
Names have been changed to protect the innocent.

Bob: The once token male in Special Olympics
Three years ago, he escorted two of the Special Olympic girls.
Last year, he escorted one of the Special Olympic girls.
This year, he is planning on escorting my daughter and their mutual friend.

Becky: My daughter

Sally: Mutual friend referenced above.

Tina: Another Special Olympics friend.

Andrew: A new Special Olympic Friend.

Cindy: A friend that attends the same high school but participates in another section of Special Olympics.

Act 2:  Scene 1:  An early morning waiting for the bus, I began asking Becky about other special kids that might be attending the Prom.  One of those I asked about was Andrew.  Her response: "I can't ask a boy to the Prom!"  I explained: "I wasn't asking you to do that, I just wondered if you knew if he was going to attend Prom."  Becky "A girl can't ask a boy out!"  Me: (yes, I SHOULD have stayed on track) "Well, sure a girl can ask a boy out.  I just wanted to know if he (Andrew) was going to go to Prom."

BUS ARRIVES (1 minute too late to save this poor Mother)

Act 2:  Scene 2:  Bus arrives home.  Becky happily gets off of the bus and reports the following to me:  "Andrew is going to ask another girl to go with him in April and if she doesn't go he will take me."  Me:  "WHAT?  I didn't tell you to ask him to be your date!"  Becky: "Oh Well!"

Fast Forward to Saturday

Act 3: Scene 1:  Becky and I pick up Sally and her Mother to go Prom Dress shopping.  Yippee!

Act 3:  Scene 2:  We arrive at the Prom store.  Within 1 minute of being there, I look at the girls and they both have the SAME PROM DRESS in there arms!  Now, I love my girl but I am the first to tell you she can be S T U B B O R N (and NO, I do NOT know where she gets it)!  The other Mom and I looked each other in the eye, knowing trouble might be brewing.  We gently took our girls and whirled them in and out of the racks of dresses as we squealed with delight, "Look at this one!  This is perfect!  OH, they colors are amazing!"  We shoved each girl in their own dressing room with 8-10 dresses each.  First one on each of them...yup...the one they both liked!  With satin, silk, taffeta, lace and netting flying over the doors and through the aisles, we Mom's just held our breath.

Act 3:  Scene 3:  Hallelujah!  Becky found the spirit of giving and said Sally could have "THE" dress.  Many more dresses on...and dresses off, she found the ONE for HER!  Thank you! Thank you!

Here's a sneak peek:

Fast forward to lunch:

Act 3: Scene 4:  Sally's Mom tells us that Tina's Mom is planning on asking Andrew to take Tina to the prom.  *huge sigh from me*

Fast forward to that night.

Setting:  Dark Bedroom
               Me.  Alone.

"Dear Lord.  If you make ALL of these kids happy for Prom, I promise I won't sit in the parking lot alone drinking.  Really.  I won't.  I promise."

****Please know, I am laughing through all of it.  Life is too short not to see the humor!

Excellent life moments here for these kids. The story you write is one mirrored by so many single mothers in the field. Somedays you just want to scream....others bang your head against the wall....while others you just burst out laughing. People who don't have this situation don't understand. It is unique and one of the toughest jobs right now. It does get better later....hopefully:) One of my friends went through the same mess.....it like dealing with younger children going through puberty. All you can do is your best and let life play itself out:) As a Mom, it sounds like you're doing an excellent job. I've enjoyed these posts because I've gone through it all myself. I'm glad I'm not the only one who has had these frustrations. Hang in there:)

I think you are a great mom! And if you don't laugh some times you'd cry. I hope they had a great time. Did you take pictures.

Her dress is so pretty and I think you are a great Mom with a lot of patience. I have two daughters so I've been there and done that but probably not as well as you.

Don't worry Jill, I will go and sit with you to make sure you dod not drink. I have laughed my butt off at this play. Great play by the way. You should consider writing one. I am sure it will be a huge seller. Look at the Harry Potter writer. Can't remember her name. She started all this on a napkin.
Hope the drama is over and everyone has a great time.
Thanks for sharing your lifes story with us bloggers.

Oh the complicated life of a teenager. It's hard to keep up isn't it?
Your post made me smile though.
Somehow I can't see you sitting in a parking lot drinking lol.
By the way Becky's prom dress looks lovely - such a lovely shade of blue.

The suspense is killing me. Nice to catch up. I see you have snow on the deck. Whew, how do you handle that? I guess by dealing with the prom woes?
