Irish Eyes are Smilin'

Long ago, it a not
so far away land,
my hometown was
painted green.
Literally.
A green stripe painted
down the center of Maddy street,
large shamrocks painted on the
stoop of every business.

It took years
for this Irish Lassie
to realize who these
fine little leprechauns were
and to this day,
she has kept mum.
One never knows how close a leprechaun
may be.

One thing I do know,
is they are full of surprises.
So today, especially,
May Irish Eyes Be Smilin' Upon Ye!

My Dad's favorite singer
was Bing Crosby.
Of course, he loved
"When Irish Eyes Are Smilin'"
but his ultimate favorite was this classic...

My Dad, bless his heart,
couldn't carry a tune.
But what I wouldn't give to hear
him singing along with Bing today.

I've got my green on,
how about you?

I'm Irish, too - but only for today, when we're all supposed to be Irish, yes? Happy St. Patrick's Day to you, Jill.

It has been so lovely here the peeps have been gone most of the day.
When Mom they left Mom was sporting a emerald green blouse and shamrock earrings....Dad even got into the spirit with a green t-shirt.

Lovely lovely song...

Danny Boy reminds me of the movie with John Wayne in it where he played an Irishman who came home after a boxing match. Always reminds me of my daddy, too!

Blessings,
Donna

It is a great custome to have green on for St. Patrick's Day. I have read about him and shamrocks.
Danny Boy is my favorite too. What a beautiful melody it has!
