Guess Who Came to Dinner?

Sorry for the poor quality of
these pictures.
I was taking them through
a window and a screen.

I had not one,
but two
pileated woodpeckers on the deck yesterday.
I've had up to four in the yard
but this was a first.

They are very cautious
and fly away at the littlest sound.
If they see me through the window,
they are gone in a flash!

Since most of my pictures are poor,
I got this one off of the Internet
for you:

I love to look at those birds....but, let me tell you when we lived in Minnesota....I hated them! They destroyed the siding on our house....even though there was a whole woodsy area for them to dine in. We had to fix and replace huge holes before we sold. I wish I could have just sent them over your way for their dinner!!!

I just love red headed wood peckers!

What fun to watch them peck away--such pretty birds. We had one that kept coming back to our house and pecking away on it. We hung balloons under the eaves to keep him away. Have a great weekend, Jill. Mickie :)

Lovely photos of nice and colorful birds. I don't see them so much here in Ireland, but back home in Sweden they're very common. Very nice to have them so close. Have a lovely weekend!

We have none of this type here! I love the ones that do come to visit the downy, hairy and red-bellied!

They are so pretty...as long as they stay on the trees, and not the siding on the house!

Oh my gosh! How totally exciting! We have a little woodpecker (or two or three or four) who have nothing better than to poke away at the comp siding on our house. They are tiny and make the BIGGEST noise (and mess!).

What a coincidence, we are seeing them around us too! But they are too far to get good pictures of. I really enjoy seeing them, and find them a bit elusive, so I think you were lucky to get some pretty good shots!

I hope you're doing well, and enjoying your weekend!

Very exciting for you to see them. We don't have woodpeckers in Australia.

Woodpeckers are great, as long as you aren't trying to sleep. : ).. How great that you were able to get pics (even if they were through the screen door). We had a woodpecker a few times who kept tapping on one of our vents on the top of the house. We could hear the tapping down in the basement. Lol.

How cool, these are awesome birds to have in your yard. Do they come to eat your suet? I see them in the woods next to my house, but they will not come to my feeders. I think you got some cool photos. Have a great day.

Lucky girl! I have only seen one once...and believe me, I spend lots of time looking :)
