Sorry for the poor quality of
these pictures.
I was taking them through
a window and a screen.
I had not one,
but two
pileated woodpeckers on the deck yesterday.
I've had up to four in the yard
but this was a first.
They are very cautious
and fly away at the littlest sound.
If they see me through the window,
they are gone in a flash!
Since most of my pictures are poor,
I got this one off of the Internet
for you:

Hi Jill! Oh arent they pretty, wow lucky you to have them around.
Have a nice weekend my friend.
Love those birds. They are probably my favorite. How gorgeous.
Lucky you.
Have a great weekend.
What gorgeous dinner guests!
I'd be so excited to see these! Your last two captures are pretty darn great, I think. :)
How wonderful to have them in your yard!! I'd be jumpin' for joy to see one of these up close!!
I love to look at those birds....but, let me tell you when we lived in Minnesota....I hated them! They destroyed the siding on our house....even though there was a whole woodsy area for them to dine in. We had to fix and replace huge holes before we sold. I wish I could have just sent them over your way for their dinner!!!
I just love red headed wood peckers!
What fun to watch them peck away--such pretty birds. We had one that kept coming back to our house and pecking away on it. We hung balloons under the eaves to keep him away. Have a great weekend, Jill. Mickie :)
Fabulous Jill . . . isn't it fun to catch a glimpse and then some photos too? Very fine looking guy . . .
We get a few back home but I've never seen more than one at a time.
They're so pretty, aren't they? We had one hanging around a few years ago, but haven't seem him since. I hope your two stay around!
lucky duck! um, birdwatcher! :)
I like them as long as they don't peck on my house.
Those are amazing-looking birds!
What beautiful birds Jill!... I would just sit all day long and quietly watch them... I was so happy to hear you are planning a fairy garden!... I LOVE fairies and hope you will post it... I am doing alot of posts on fairies right now... they enchant me totally... xoxo Julie Marie
OH MY Miss Jill mom would love to see a Pileated in person as you say they are shy but you must have the purrfect place for them!! What a treasure. Thank you for sharing
hugs madi and mom
Awesome my very favourite hard to get a shot bird. Great. B
That is a lovely bird - lucky you having them in your garden.
Oh I love those guys... I saw the first one this past summer!!
Lovely photos of nice and colorful birds. I don't see them so much here in Ireland, but back home in Sweden they're very common. Very nice to have them so close. Have a lovely weekend!
Eva
How exciting to see two!
Truly beautiful!
We have none of this type here! I love the ones that do come to visit the downy, hairy and red-bellied!
So pretty....I'll bet you could hear them.....
They are so pretty...as long as they stay on the trees, and not the siding on the house!
Hi Jill,
I'm so happy that the tags arrived!!! I hope you enjoy them!!! You are such a doll~xo Cindy
Oh my gosh, Jill!
These are fabulous photos! What a treat to have these visitors come for a bit! The color is amazing!
Blessings,
Donna
it's winter girl....get those screens out and you will get some wonderful pictures.
i almost died with jealousy when i saw the last one, good thing it wasn't yours ;)
i might de-friend you with that kinda competition!!
What a great surprise!
Very nice!!! Yours are pretty good! Hope you have a nice weekend!
I think you took great pictures there - all that gray then the beautiful red woodpecker appears. sandie
I dont believe I've ever seen one of those beauties. Very cool.
Oh...he's so cute...
LOL
Very exciting!! Whoo hoo!
Oh my gosh! How totally exciting! We have a little woodpecker (or two or three or four) who have nothing better than to poke away at the comp siding on our house. They are tiny and make the BIGGEST noise (and mess!).
xoRebecca
What a coincidence, we are seeing them around us too! But they are too far to get good pictures of. I really enjoy seeing them, and find them a bit elusive, so I think you were lucky to get some pretty good shots!
I hope you're doing well, and enjoying your weekend!
Dang - I wanted to say that this just goes to show you that Friday the 13th is lucky after all. Then I read again. (sigh)
Oh Jill you are so lucky...
Very exciting for you to see them. We don't have woodpeckers in Australia.
Woodpeckers are great, as long as you aren't trying to sleep. : ).. How great that you were able to get pics (even if they were through the screen door). We had a woodpecker a few times who kept tapping on one of our vents on the top of the house. We could hear the tapping down in the basement. Lol.
How cool, these are awesome birds to have in your yard. Do they come to eat your suet? I see them in the woods next to my house, but they will not come to my feeders. I think you got some cool photos. Have a great day.
Lucky girl! I have only seen one once...and believe me, I spend lots of time looking :)
