Old Blue

One day as I was out hunting for barns,
I came across this old blue wrecker.  It just sat there, calling for me to take a picture.  There is just something I love about old trucks, wreckers included, I guess.

Yes, I was raised in a very small town.
A town none the less.  Sure, I had a few friends
that lived on farms and raised cattle and I was happy to spend  a night or two for sleepovers but I was
certainly ready to return home the next day.

One day, my dad came home with a very old, red pick up truck.
I'm thinking it was a Chevy but I really have no clue.
Something about that old truck stirred up a whole other side to me.
Nah, I wasn't ready to raise cattle but I sure did daydream
about meeting a cowboy and maybe raising some horses.
I could just picture myself wearing the prairie dresses or skirts and tops
and walking through a field of daisies in my cowboy boots.

I loved that old truck. I'd gladly ride with my dad in it anywhere
he wanted to go.  Those were easy days.  Days before responsibilities and
the trials and tribulations of adult hood.

So whenever I see an old truck like old blue,
it seems like I go for a very long ride again,
even if it's only in my mind.

Do you have something that takes you back to better times?

Oh Jill, you are so funny. I am sure those were the good old days. Who wouldn't want to live like you said. I know I would. I think life was better in those days. Alot more innocent and everyone respected elders. Today there is no respect, starting with couples not respecting each other. But that is a whole new can of worms.

Memories I have are my parents sitting in the living room on sundays and us 5 kids with them and laughing at my dad's laugh. He would listen to a comedian in spanish on the record player. (of course we did not understand what he was saying) But we laughed like crazy. Good old innocent days.

I try to have my girls come over since they are away at college and look through the scrapbooks I have done for them. We laugh at each others clothes, hair dos, shoes or just anything silly we see in the pictures. Good old memories.

Morning Ms. Jill
What a beautiful post full of memories. Mom said it reminds her of the Allan Jackson song 'Drive'.

Goodmorning Jill!I have many old photos that remind me of sweet things. But yes I agree back when I was growing up those were the best days.Even though there are good days now, somehow when we look back it seems slower paced more relaxed and more heartfelt.

Blessings for a nice new day Jill!

What a cute old truck. We have a friend that used to have an old blue truck, and his license plate said "COLBLUE" as in see old blue. :-)

I'm thinking now are the good times -- I had some not so good times in the past...

I like the colors they painted trucks and cars back in the day -- pastels. Wish they would bring them back. :)

Hi Jill, I too was raised in a small, rural town... right next to the little rural town I live in today... that is why many times I post I am ten years old again on certain days... I long for those simpler, gentler innocent times... your old blue truck photo is just priceless... visit that little girl inside you often... I do... and cherish those precious memories... xoxo Julie Marie

My ex had inherited a powder blue (really old) truck, years ago. It was called 'The Blue Goose'. It brings back some really mixed emotions.

Isn't it funny how your dad bringing home that old red truck stirred all those emotions in you? Marrying a cowboy, wearing prairie dresses, etc.???

Oh I love your shot of this old blue wrecker. One of my dearest memories of family was Christmas when instead of a Stocking we use to set out a soup bowl and in the morning it was filled with candy and an Orange. We always loved those bowls.

Dear Jill, Yes, the water and fishing with my dad. Just the salt air and the sound of the seagulls. My dad died when I was sixteen, but I have beautiful memories for my lifetime. You daydream like I do. Blessings, Catherine xo
