The Dead End

The day began
innocently enough.

Perfect fall temperature.
Sunshine reaching
to the deepest parts
of the soul.

Traveling
over busy highways
which gave way
to country roads,
rich in farmland,
cows and horses.

Along with a good friend,
we picked up big brother.

We spent a day of shopping,
a wonderful salad for lunch
and a little thrifting
on the ride home after
taking big brother back to his home.

As evening approached,
we picked up more friends
for a tasty dinner out
( a rare occasion that we eat out twice in one day)!

Good food and
good conversation,
unknowing if it would be our last.
We bid farewell
to one friend
who opted not to join us our our next adventure.

The five of us piled into the truck
and ventured down a somewhat foggy,
dark, dirt road.
The next part of the trek was by foot.
Imagine if you will,
a crisp, clear October night.
A sliver of a crescent moon
and a star studded sky.
Peaceful.
Until...
off in the distance,
the screams of
terrified souls.

We hesitatingly
climbed upon the
trailer,
filled to capacity with others
seated on hay bales.
Taking deep breaths
as the tractor pulled us forward
into unknown darkness
and horrors.
Monsters, leaping out
from unseen hideouts,
jumping upon the wagon,
peering or growling into
the faces of the innocent.
Terrifying.

We breathed a sigh of relief
as the tractor parked
and we were instructed to
take the rest of our journey on foot.
There was no escape
as more creatures took
their delight in scaring us.

Again,
we make it though,
only to be faced with a cornfield.
Dark.  Dank.  Unknown.
An occasional strobe
lit the way.
As we were rushed on
by the hand or face
of a ghoul urging us onward.

Please join us,
for a brief moment of our night.

I am proud to say
we survived.
And now I remind you...
Be careful at what goes
bump in the night!

LOL Spooky! My daughter and SIL participate in one of those every year in New Hampshire. They have so much fun to, but I am sad to say, it is not for me. I don't like to be spooked.

I get a little scared at scary things - teehee. Looks like you had yourself one heck of a day and did you say that was your son? Nice day.

I have to tell you, after Friday, I was a bit hesitant to venture into your tale or horror. I'm too easily scared; I don't do well in haunted houses, but it sounds like a terrific day. Willie sends his thanks and love...that little sneak!

I'd do the hayride, seated by my hubby. But no haunted houses for me. I'm too claustrophobic as it is. Throw in a mummy and a vampire, and no way, Jose! :)

How could you have had the courage to experience this horror. I think I would have pooped in my pants. I love Halloween, I was even married on Halloween, but this is a bit scary for me.
Glad you had a good time.
