Summer Reads

I thought I'd
 offer up some of
my favorite books
as potential summer
reads for anyone
that may be
interested.

First up, Snowflower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See.  This is the story of  women's friendships  in nineteenth century China.  I found it to be spell binding as it takes you through many of the rituals of China of that time period.

Next, I'd like to offer up Shanghai Girls by Lisa See.  I couldn't wait to read another book by Ms. See.  I found this one captivating as well as it tells of two sisters and two cultures and the struggle the sisters have to find a new life in America while bound by the culture of China.

Peony in Love is also by Lisa See.  This story is set in 17th century China and is a story of star crossed lovers.

Heaven is for Real by Todd Burpo and Lynn Vincent.  This is a little boy's amazing story of his trip to heaven and back.

Lastly, Dewey, the Small Town Library Book by Vicki Myron and Bret Witter.  As most of you know, I absolutely love, love, love cats.  However, I don't love all things cats.  I would not have picked this book up on my own.  Thankfully, I received it as a gift and I adored it.  This book is a true story about one incredible cat named Dewey that managed to change a whole town...for the better.  There is a sequel by the name of Dewey's Nine Lives.  It's good too but if you can only read one book this summer, try the first Dewey instead.

Hoping you
find your
perfect summer
read!

Hi Jill, thanks for becoming my newest follower! You have a very nice blog and I will follow you as well. I see we have a love for cats in common. My Stormy pretty much rules the house and we love her to pieces even if she is a lot of work. Thanks for the book recommendations, I can't wait to read the book about Dewey, the cat. Have a great weekend. ~Cheryl
