The Name Game

This picture has nothing to do with this post, I just like it!

I'm taking a risk here.
A big risk.
Sometimes, I easily entertain myself.
I thought I'd try this on you.

My Grandfather's given name was George Alfred.
My grandma always called him Alfred.
Everyone else called him George.

My Mom's given name was
Eleanor Eileen Beck.
Her parents (above)
always called her Eileen.
Everyone else called her Becky.

My Dad's given name was John Russell.
He hated the name John so he changed it
(not legally) to Jack.
But everyone called him Russ.
Or J.R, on occasion.

My sister's first born son
is Christopher G.
He married a gal named Shannon.

My brother's first born daughter
is named Shannon.
She married a boy
named Christopher G.

My sister's second son
is named Deacon.
My dad, who wasn't always good with names,
  called the poor child,
Darrin, Duncan, Durwood...
anything but Deacon.  Kind of like
Endora on Bewitched.
Anyway,
Deacon married a girl named
Jill.
And of course,
I am Jill.

When I married,
a dear friend of ours
was our Best Man.
His name was Allen Thomas.
But everyone called him
Tommy.

You've probably already figured out that
I named Becky after my Mom, Becky.
Drives the medical community nuts because
Becky was a nickname for my Mom based
on her maiden name
and MY Becky is NOT short for Rebecca!

I also have a brother named Terence
who goes by Terry.
My best friends name is Theresa
but she goes by Terri.
Then I have a super good friend
named Teresa,
but luckily,
she goes by Teresa.

And then there's the friend
who has daughters named
Alicia and Ashley.
Say those two names
fast a few times!

OK. If you've followed along,
you deserve an A+.
Or maybe I should say,
if you've just read all the way to the end,
you've earned it!

Great post Jill I know a little bit about nicknames that make not really any sense hence Buttons:)
I did our geneology and I finally figured out by reading this post no one really uses their real name or a version close to it.It is fun but makes it very hard to trace:0 I love the birdhouse too.B

My Mom's legal name is Geraldine, but everyone calls her Gerry. Guess what her TWIN brother's name is...yup, Jerry, or Gerry, but legal name, Gerald. My brother's legal name is Gerald Thomas Rush. We call him Duke. My Dad's name is Charles Thomas Rush. His brothers and sister call him Tommy. Everyone else calls him Tom, unless they don't know him, then they call him Charles or Chuck. My Uncle Bud's real name was William Russell, after his Dad, who's name was Russell William, but they called him Pete! Uncle Emory (John)...I'll stop. I get it though.

Oh my!
Fun to read about the names.
My brother is really named "Larry" and everyone tries to make him "Lawrence!" Names are a funny thing. John and I had chosen the names Holly or Andy if we had had children. We would definitely called them exactly what they were named to avoid confusion!!!!!

Oh wait...did I mention...my name is Cindy Rush. Before I married my husband, Dave Rush, who was not related btw....my name was, Cindy Rush!

Wow, that's amazing, I don't know how you keep track of it all.
I don't know anybody who uses their middle name first. I don't even have a middle name - don't know why my mum and dad didn't give me one. I feel I missed out somehow, lol.

Amazing how you keep track of everybody, very interesting post. Enjoy your Day!

Thanks for sharing your name story. It's interesting how a names comes to be or why a nickname sticks.

This was fun. Here's something similar:
my dad's name was William Everett, but they called him Willie. His brother, Jeff, married a woman whose given name was Willie. So they called her "Willie Jeff" to avoid confusion.
My mom's given name was Donnie (after a grandmother), but whenever anyone just saw her name (doctor's office, etc) they assumed she was a he.
And my given name is Dianna, but my sister started calling me Dianne when I was a baby. So very few people know me as Dianna.
Fun post, Jill! Thanks for reading my version!

Okay - so do you stay up at night going through all this in your mind? What a crafty way to put it all together. My last name used to be Schlichenmayer and my dad, my older brother and older sister all went by "Slick". We like to keep it simple.

Sonya @ Under the Desert Sky said...

That was fun, but I got "lost"! ;)

So much fun! At least these are names. My Grandma called my Grandpa Bub - his name was Elmer, and my Husband Gary's whole family calls him Mooch - no clue why...LOL

Deanna said...

Well, I read all the way to the end, but please don't ask me to repeat any of it. giggle My father-in-law could never remember my name, he called me Diane, Deann, anything but my real name of Deanna.

I noticed this practice with the older generation of my family. I think it's a good tradition to keep up:)

Ok, here is mine, My dad's name is Isaac Enrique Reyes, he named his first son Enrique, second son Isaac and third son Enrique which we call Kiki. Crazy, but true. The girls names are Niurka Maria nickname Nikki, Mayra and Ana Maria nickname Ani which is me. I can go on and on about naming the family using the same names but I won't want to bore you.
Cute post. Enjoyed it. TFS. Ana
By the way how is the work hunt going? How is Becky feeling?

Try having the same exact name as your hubby's ex -- at least he didn't have to learn a new name. Lol.
