Not Your Average Fairy Tale

It was a
dark and
stormy stinky
night.

As I sat on the deck,
taking in the beautiful stars
and lovely symphony of frogs
serenading me,
panic began to fill my nose
with the rather distinctive odor
of:

Yes,
my friends,
from the grounds below
me the scent of skunk wafted it's way
up to the deck.
Normally, I'd  merely sigh at the interruption,
however,
this mangy beast
was also lurking below:

I am sure you can all imagine
the rest.
And I am sure you all
know the well known
remedy for a dog sprayed by a skunk,
but, alas, it's my fairy tale and I shall remind you
anyway:
Tomato juice or tomato sauce.

I grabbed Max and raced
to the kitchen cupboards,
somewhat relived knowing I had
purchased tomato something
at the store earlier in the day.
My relief was quickly replaced by dread
as I realized all I had was
a can of whole tomatoes with basil!

Well, what's a girl gonna do?
She has to work with what's she's got.
I only hope you can imagine what my
dog looked like with red
chunks of tomatoes
and big green chunks of basil
all over his black fur.
He looks like a drown rat
when wet anyway but this was so comical
I had to laugh to myself.
I sure wish I'd been able to snap a few shots
but I was too engrossed with the smell.

The good news is,
the tomatoes and a lot
of shampoo worked!

So I guess the moral of this story is,
well, there really isn't a moral to the story,
just some good old advice:
keep
tomato juice in your house
or your dog in after dark!

Oh Jill this was hilarious...laughing with you not at you! Geez I've heard stories of how to rid a dog of Eau de skunk but often wonder if it really worked?!! good to know it does or perhaps is was the basil that worked. In either case, Max has shiny, skunk free furs.
hugs to you and Becky and of course

I have had one of those "not so much fun" experiences too. The tomato juice works, "happy whole tomatoes do too.)

How did you shampoo? Hosed him down?

Gracious, Golly, Geeee.
I hope the stench did not perfume you also...
Mom called earlier this evening to tell me that a skunk had gotten into the hen house and the hen was frantically defending her 3 wk. old chicks, wings a-flaying. Needless to say, PippyLe'Pew is now in the Great Beyond.

LOL!!!! Love your skunk pic. How fun. Poor puppy. I don't know why but I think skunks don't really smell that bad....but then again, I didn't have to bathe the dog:) Enjoy your 3 day weekend!

Oh, tomato sauce is so useful.

I have learned a new trick though it is not useful over here.

Oh my goodness that was a good laugh. Truly I'm sorry it happened to your poor Max and your nose but your story was hilarious. We had said skunk in our neighborhood the other night along with a raccoon but the skunk was just passing through so no harm done.

Oh my, what an evening you had! Glad everything worked. Guess I better get some tomato juice!
