Just Hanging Out

Snow must be headed this way soon.
The birds are just wild!
I nearly had a woodpecker land
on my head today
and a nuthatch almost
clipped my ear!
Chickadees and
juncos have added to the frenzy!

Here'a rose brested nuthutch
hanging out.

Here's an even
better look at him.

I am in bird heaven!

  1. Lovely photos of the birds Jill, and aren't they fat!!!
You must be feeding them too well!!

If you get snow over there please keep it.

We here in Ireland don't want it
well maybe on Christmas day and just for the day!!!

    Have a good day

  8. Great pics. You must be a good observer of the birds to realise that snow is on the way when they become agitated. I wonder how they know. Perhaps they feel breezes from afar, or it is a change in the air pressure. Fascinating.

  9. WOW jill....these are great!! my birds are the same way. then it snows, and the entire day is filled with "more picture taking". i tell myself to stop, that i'm not getting anything done...but i don't, i can't. snow days are picture days. i can't fit anything else in!!

i use shelled peanuts to lure them in also. i buy them in bulk at the big warehouse stores, on the cheap. placed right on the deck rail, it works great!!

  13. Whoopee I'm in bird heaven with you. I love the rose breated nuthatch. We don't have those...we have brown headed nuthatches. Dark eyed Juncos winter here but I haven't seen them yet. Pine siskin, yellow rumped warblers arrived this week.
Suet is the secret for sure.

  18. Great pictures!! I have just filled my feeders for the first time this year and have loved watching 'bird tv' from my computer--It really is better than what's on TV...At least a lot of the time! :-)

  19. I haven't seen any winter birds yet. And I guess the guys who hang around all year are still finding enough in the wild to be happy. Pretty soon they'll be more abundant at our feeders!

  25. Love the Red-breasted Nuthatch. I have a friend up in the Arrowhead that hand feeds one. He calls him Norris. The chickadees and nuthatches follow him through the woods like Johnny Appleseed.
