on my head today
and a nuthatch almost
clipped my ear!

juncos have added to the frenzy!

ReplyDeleteGreat pics. You must be a good observer of the birds to realise that snow is on the way when they become agitated. I wonder how they know. Perhaps they feel breezes from afar, or it is a change in the air pressure. Fascinating.
ReplyDeleteWOW jill....these are great!! my birds are the same way. then it snows, and the entire day is filled with "more picture taking". i tell myself to stop, that i'm not getting anything done...but i don't, i can't. snow days are picture days. i can't fit anything else in!!
ReplyDeletei use shelled peanuts to lure them in also. i buy them in bulk at the big warehouse stores, on the cheap. placed right on the deck rail, it works great!!
I guess they're loading up on fuel for the long fly south? They're always so much fun to watch! =)

ReplyDeleteWhoopee I'm in bird heaven with you. I love the rose breated nuthatch. We don't have those...we have brown headed nuthatches. Dark eyed Juncos winter here but I haven't seen them yet. Pine siskin, yellow rumped warblers arrived this week.

ReplyDeleteGreat pictures!! I have just filled my feeders for the first time this year and have loved watching 'bird tv' from my computer--It really is better than what's on TV...At least a lot of the time! :-)

ReplyDeleteI haven't seen any winter birds yet. And I guess the guys who hang around all year are still finding enough in the wild to be happy. Pretty soon they'll be more abundant at our feeders!

ReplyDeleteLove the Red-breasted Nuthatch. I have a friend up in the Arrowhead that hand feeds one. He calls him Norris. The chickadees and nuthatches follow him through the woods like Johnny Appleseed.
