Perspective

"Most of the important things in the world have been accomplished by people who have kept on trying when there seems to be no hope. "  Dale Carnegie

I am going to keep this in perspective for my week ahead.  I think it's a great reminder.

I consider myself fortunate that I'm around people that remind me of this on a daily basis.  I encounter many special needs people, from small children to adults, on a daily basis.
Most of you know that my kids are both special needs.

Some of the special needs may be physical.  Like a teacher I work with who uses crutches daily, due to twisted lower limbs and feet.  I never cease to marvel at the way he forges ahead.  Fearless.  Confident.  Brave.  He doesn't let anything or anyone get in his way.  I sometimes stand on the sidelines, twitching as I want to jump in to lend a hand, afraid he may tumble to the floor, but holding myself tight to the floor as he moves onward and shows me that he doesn't need help.  He inspires me.

Then there are those with intellectual challenges or behavior challenges.  Some days are just plain hard.  Nasty.  No good.  Horrible.  But each day, I get to see them return to school with smiles on their faces ready and willing to seize another day.  And seize it they do.

I'm able to observe my daughter and her beau as they develop a deep meaning relationship.  I watch them closely, never letting them know.  And I learn.  I learn something each time we are all together.  They care and love each other no matter what.  Just like everybody else.  They may have trials and tribulations unlike ours but they face them with abandonment.  Alone. Or together.  They rise above the rest.

So my friends, I am going to move ahead with hope in my heart today.  How about you?

***I'm sorry about the highlighted text in this post.  Blogger seems to have a mind of it's own tonight.

Such a sweet and touching post. I have a great niece with spina bifida. She, too, pushes me to face life differently. With more abandon and joy, more hope in my heart.

Such a great post! I love the quote by Dale Carnegie! I also have several special needs in my regular education class, including a blind boy. To me, they are the true heroes who keep getting up when they are down and trying again every day. Thanks for this wonderful reminder. Enjoy the week ahead.

Great first photo to go with the message, alone, but not alone, tethered together, relying on each other, each of us responsible for staying upright. We can always find inspiration in the people around us if we look for it :) Have a wonderful week!

I love your photos today, and your text. There are people all around us who can be an inspiration - if we'll only open our eyes to the possibility!
(And I kind of liked the highlighting - thought it was intentional!)

I love that you observe. It was my number one thing I did from going to years of Special needs dances and events. There was so much to learn. The hardest part is letting go when it's time to leave the nest.....because after so many years of extra special care and parenting, it is difficult. But keep observing. There are more surprises in store and keep thinking the good thoughts because all that hard work will pay off. I worked in the field for 15 years. Many times it's challenging. Often times frustrating. And when you least expect it, a core emotion will erupt that you weren't expecting and bring you to tears because it's something that will be with them for life as they make their big life decisions....and you made it happen for them. And no one, but yourself, knows this and inside a big bright smile develops. Your own personal applause....mostly short because something random happens and kills the moment:) But it's those moments we live for....so enjoy:)
